Dragonball - The Saiya-jin Saga

This saga begins with Goku as a grownup, on his way to a reunion with his old friends at Kame House. On the way their, he picks up his son, a small boy named Gohan who has a tail. They ride Kinto'un over to Kamesennin's, and Goku is just introducing his son to Bulma, Kuririn, and Kamesennin when a gigantic warrior appears. He reveals that his name is Radditz, and he is from a planet called Vegeta. He says that he is a member of the Saiya-jin race, and so is his brother Kakarotto. Then he drops a bomb by saying that Goku is Kakarotto. Goku is outraged, not wanting to believe that he could be a member of a savage, planet destroying race. Seeing Goku is unwilling to join him, Radditz grabs Gohan and tells Goku to kill 100 earthlings in the next day to get his son back, then he flies off with Gohan.

Goku is ready to rush after Radditz, and Kamesennin and Kuririn are trying to hold him back while appearing ready to go with him when Piccolo arrives. He had met Radditz earlier and was amazed by his power. He points out that neither he or Goku is strong enough to defeat Radditz, and proposes that they join forces temporarily to battle the Saiya-jin. With an uneasy alliance, the two head after Radditz, tracking him with the dragon radar since Gohan had a dragonball on his hat.

As the two fighters square off against Radditz, it is plainly visible that they are simply outclassed, even working together. Then Goku manages to grab Radditz's tail and squeezes it, immobilizing him while Piccolo gathers enough energy to destroy him. Listening to Radditz's lies of repentence, Goku releases him and Radditz thrashes him. Hearing his father's cries, Gohan rises from Radditz's space pod where he had been prisioner and powers up incredibly, then flies at Radditz headfirst and smashes into his chest, shattering his armor and injuring the great warrior. As Radditz turns to destroy Gohan, Goku leaps up and grabs Radditz in a bearhug. While Piccolo gathers energy to blast them both, Goku ignores Radditz's pleas for mercy, and when Piccolo fires, the beam drills a hole through both Saiya-jins. As Radditz dies, Piccolo mentions the dragonballs and their ability to restore Goku's life, and then Radditz transmits this infomation to two other Saiya-jins. He then tells Piccolo that two more Saiya-jin are on their way to Earth, they will arrive in one year, and they are even more powerful than he is.

Hearing the grim news, the Z Warriors all set off for a year of training. Piccolo takes Gohan and puts him into the wilderness to sharpen his instincts and increase his toughness, then takes Gohan in and drives him incessently in one on one training. Kuririn, Yamcha, Tenshin-chan and his friend Chaozu, and Yajirobei report to Kami's Lookout for their own special training, and Goku travels in the afterlife along a long winding road through nothingness called Snake Way to a small planet where King Kaio lives, the god of the northern galaxy, teller of bad puns, and trainer of great warriors. Here Goku learns to increase his power using the Kaioken technique and attack with the powerful Genki-dama. As the year draws to a close, the warriors all head out to meet the Saiya-jin.

When the Saiya-jin, Vegeta and Nappa arrive, the warriors there to meet them are Piccolo, Gohan, Kuririn, Yamcha, Tenshin-han, and Chaozu. Nappa then places seeds in the ground and grows six fighting Saibaman, terrible frenzied fighters. They are sent against the Z Warriors one at a time for the Saiya-jin's entertainment. Yamcha goes first and easily defeats one of the Saibamen, but than as he walks away the Saibaman grabs him in a bearhug and self destructs, killing them both. Kuririn is outraged and with his friends' help the Saibamen are defeated. At this point, Nappa enters the fray, fighting against Tenshin-han. As Tenshin-han is beaten to the ground and Nappa moves in for the kill, Chaozu takes a desperate tactic to save his friend and grabs Nappa's back, then self destructs. Unfortunatley, Nappa manages to defend the blast and isn't even injured. Now Piccolo and Kuririn attack Nappa, but Gohan is paralyzed with fear. The dying Tenshin-han uses the last of his energy to attack Nappa with all his might, then dies from the effort without damaging the mighty Saiya-jin. At this point Vegeta calls for a three hour break to wait for Goku to arrive.

After three hours, Goku still hasn't arrived and Vegeta lets Nappa resume fighting. After Gohan, Piccolo, and Kuririn try a few failing tactics, Nappa unleashes a gigantic blast at Gohan, and Piccolo throws himself in front of it, saving Gohan's life. As Piccolo dies, so does Kami since their lives are linked, and the dragonballs vanish from Earth. Now Goku comes in, and beats Nappa quickly and effortlessly. As Nappa cowers in fear of this new opponent, Vegeta blasts him from behind, killing him. Goku tells Kuririn and Gohan to leave, and says he will finish the fight. He and Vegeta leave for a deserted, mountainous area to battle.

Goku and Vegeta battle for a long time, and neither fighter is winning, so Vegeta creates an energy ball that acts as an artifical full moon, and then he turns into a giant monkey monster. Now he kicks Goku around like a rag doll for a long time until Kuririn and Gohan arrive and find Yajirobei there. They convince him to cut off Vegeta's tail with his sword, after which he runs for his life and Vegeta is reduced back to his normal form. Both fighters lay on the ground, unable to move or attack. Goku begins to gather energy for a spirit bomb, but he doesn't have the strength to use it, so he gives the energy to Kuririn and tells him how to form it into a ball. Kuririn hurls the ball at Vegeta, and Vegeta appears to be defeated.

Enraged at his crushing defeat, Vegeta manages to regain his feet and starts to attack again. Now Gohan's tail has regrown, however, and he turns into a giant monkey monster, nearly killing Vegeta. When Vegeta finally manages to cut off Gohan's tail, Gohan falls and lands on Vegeta (while still a giant ape) before returning to his normal self. As Vegeta drags himself to his spacepod to escape, Kuririn stumbles after him with Yajirobei's sword, attempting to kill the evil Saiya-jin. At Goku's personal request, Kuririn drops the sword and allows Vegeta to escape, then all the heroes collapse. Kamesennin and Bulma arrive later with Chi-chi, Oolong, and Puar in tow to take them to a hospital, where they recover before the story continues.
