Goku and Paiku-han are fighting in a heaven wide tournament at the request of Dai Kaio who wants to see who the strongest dead warrior is. Meanwhile, Emma Daio is deciding who should go to heaven and who should go to hell. A young teenager is running a machine at Emma Daio's that cleanses the souls of those who go to hell, but isn't paying much attention as the machine explodes, releasing all of the evil inside it. The evil takes over the boy's body to form Janenba, who amuses himself by interfering with space and time, screwing up Emma Daio's world and sending all the dead back to earth.
Seeing a problem, Dai Kaio sends Goku and Paiku-han to solve this predicament. They find Emma Daio's world trapped in a sphere and Paiku-han sets about freeing Emma Daio while Goku fights against Janenba. Janeneba divides little replicas off of himself to attack Goku for his amusement, which angers Goku right on up to Super Saiya-jin Level 3, at which point he pounds Janenba. Janeneba gathers up his replicas, reforms, and takes on a more serious approach to the fight. Meanwhile, Paiku-han is screaming insults at the sphere to break it.
On earth, Gohan, Goten, and Trunks have their hands full battling both villains from the series like Freeza and historical bad guys like Hitler's entire army. Janenba is beating Goku, until Vegeta shows up and helps Goku escape. While they hide from Janenba, Goku convinces Vegeta that they must fuse together to beat him. They perform the fusion dance, but Vegeta isn't very good at it yet and Gogeta comes out very fat. This Gogeta simly runs away while Paiku-han distracts Janenba. Goku and Vegeta re-fuse, and this time Gogeta comes out perfectly. Janenba is quickly defeated, restoring him to the irresponsible teenager. On earth, all the dead return to where they belong, be it heaven or hell.
