Goku is with Chi-chi, trying to get Gohan into a private school. At King Kaio's request, Gokou teleports to King Kaio's planet. At the same time, a Saiya-jin named Paragus lands on earth and tells Vegeta they want him to come rule on the new Saiya-jin homeworld, New Vegeta. To take this position, there is a Super Saiya-jin Vegeta must defeat. Anxious for power, Vegeta quickly accepts and sets off for New Vegeta, along with Trunks, Gohan, Kuririn, Master Roshi, and Oolong. Goku teleports to New Vegeta, after learning about the Super Saiya-jin from King Kaio.
When they arrive, they find a trap set by Paragus. The legendary Super Saiya-jin is his son, Brolly. Paragus is upset because King Vegeta sentenced both of them to death, fearing Brolly's incredible power. Brolly was so strong, in fact, that he saved both of their lives when the planet Vegeta exploded. Since King Vegeta is dead, they have decided to take their revenge on Vegeta. Brolly, unfortunately, is quite thourghly insane, and is only kept in control by bracelets and necklaces his father has put on him. Once Goku arrives, Brolly is thrilled, as he has an odd hatred for Goku simply because they were born on the same day.
Brolly turns into a Super Saiya-jin, and goes on a rampage. He attacks everyone, beating the newly arrived Piccolo and killing his own father. No one is strong enough to defeat him. Goku asks his companions to give him their energy, and everyone but Vegeta complies. Goku is still not able to beat Brolly. Finally Vegeta sees the light and gives Goku his energy too. Goku becomes much stronger, and quickly whips Brolly. The planet starts to become unstable from all the actions of the insane Brolly, and Goku teleports everyone to earth just before it explodes.
