When they arrive on Namek, the heroes find robots running amok under the command of a newly regenerated "metallic" Cooler, who is part robotic and can rebuild damaged portions of himself. While their friends fight the robots, Goku and Vegeta turn into Super Saiya-jins and fight against Cooler. The battle takes a long time, and is very draining for the two Super Saiya-jins. As they finally win, many more 'metallic' Coolers appear over a ridge and inform the two warriors that they are just models of Cooler and can be regenerated as many times as necessary. In their new found depression, all of the heroes are easily captured.

Taken back to the spaceship, the warriors from earth discover that the real Cooler lives on as a humongous head aboard then spaceship. Apparently, when Goku blasted him off of earth, he combined parts of himself with elements in free space to create a new body, the spaceship. Piccolo comes aboard and rescues everyone except Goku and Vegeta. Goku and Vegeta become Super Saiya-jins, break their bonds, and lash out at the real Cooler. The massive energy discharge destroys the entire ship, and everyone is sad, thinking the Super Saiya-jins to be dead. The powerful Goku and Vegeta easily survive the minor explosion, and are blown to safety, where they meet up with their allies to head back to earth.
