Yamcha

Yamcha is a powerful fighter that first appears in the Pilaf saga as a bandit in the desert who steals from travels at his whim with his partner Puar. When he encoutners Goku, he is suprised at the fight the young boy puts up, but manages to defeat Goku, who is hindered by hunger. However, when Bulma arrives, Yamcha has to run because he is deathly afraid of girls. He chases them down again, planning to rob them, but overhears Goku talking about the dragonballs and decides he would rather steal the dragonballs. He tries to take the dragonballs, but fails when he sees Bulma again and settles on following them until they have all seven.

Yamcha stays close behind and actually has to help them at a few points, fighting the Rabbit Gang for them and giving them a ride to the last dragonball when their car breaks. Yamcha is captured by Pilaf with everyone else when they are searching for the last dragonball, and he tries his best to break out of their cell but can't. When they are moved to the glass top cell that they're supposed to die in and Goku goes into Oozaru mode, freeing them, Yamcha catches Goku by the tail and squeezes it so that Goku is immobilized and Puar can cut off his tail. After this, Yamcha leaves with Bulma to start dating and overcome his fear of girls, as he dreams of being married. Yamcha appears at the Tenichi Budockis in the remainder of Dragonball, but doesn't fair too well, always reaching the final eight but never the final match.

When Dragonball Z begins, Yamcha has broken up with Bulma and is playing professional baseball when he is called to Kami's to train for the coming of the Saiya-jins. Yamcha trains hard at Kami's and arrives at the fight with the Saiya-jins much stronger. He is the first warrior to take on a Saibaman and he defeats the green monster with suprising ease. The Saibaman, however, then grabs Yamcha in a bearhug and self destructs, killing them both.

Yamcha goes to King Kaio's in the afterlife and trains hard there as well, increasing his power in the heavy gravity and willingly participating in King Kaio's unorthodox trainging activities. When the Ginyu Force comes to King Kaio's, Yamcha fights and defeats the mighty Recoom. When the Namekian dragonballs are first gathered on earth after Freeza's defeat, Yamcha is wished back to earth. He appears briefly as a zombie during the Garlic Jr. episodes then goes reluctantly to fight Freeza when Trunks suddenly arrives and Yamcha learns about the coming androids. He spends the next 3 years training, although not too hard.

When the androids arrive, Yamcha is the first one to encounter Android #19 and Dr. Gero. He is grabbed by the doctor and his energy is rapidly drained. Goku and the others arrive and rescue him, then he is restored with a senzu bean. The remainder of the series Yamcha is too weak to take part in the fighting and he ends up protecting Goku, taking him home to get the heart medicine and then transporting Goku to Kame House. For most of the rest of the Cell series, he stays at Kame House. During the rest of Dragonball, he fades away from the limelight and rarely appears in the Buu and Dragonball GT sagas.
