Tapion

Long ago, a monster called Hirudegarn was destroying the world. He could only be controlled by two magic whistles, and two brothers Tapion and Minosha played these whistles before Hirudegarn, calming it so that a priest was able to cut Hirudegarn in half, then seal the top half in Tapion's body and the bottom half in Minosha's. To ensure that Hirudegarn was never released, Tapion and Minosha were each sealed in a small box and launched into space.

Years later, Tapion is found and released by Gohan and Videl who were tricked by Hoi, who is reviving Hirudegarn, into believing that Tapion must be released to stop an oncoming evil. When he is released, all that Tapion will say is that he is evil. He stays with the Z fighters, and Trunks admires him deeply, but Tapion is absolutely antisocial. Then after Hoi steals his magic whistle and Trunks gets it back, Tapion tells the Z fighters about Hirudegarn and why he cannot sleep for fear the monster would escape. Bulma builds him a special room to sleep in but the monster still escapes and rejoins with its other half, which has already been released from Minosha by Hoi.

When he finds that Hirudegarn has escaped, Tapion rushes there and plays his flute, but without the other flute it is useless and Tapion's flute shatters. He isn't much use in the battle, but after Hirudegarn is defeated he decides to go back and live his life again, courtesey of a Bulma built time machine. Before he leaves, he gives Trunks his sword, which Mirai Trunks carries through a large part of the Freeza and Cell sagas.
