Radditz is Goku's older brother, a Saiya-jin warrior with long black hair down to his knees. He is away from the planet Vegeta with Prince Vegeta when it explodes, leaving him alive with Nappa and Vegeta. He comes to earth to find his brother, Kakarot. When he arrives, he destroys a farmer then flies to a high power, which turns out to be Piccolo. Before he can kill Piccolo, he senses a higher power that must be Kakarot. When he tracks down that power, he finds Goku and reveals his entire Saiya-jin heritage. Goku is startled but refuses Radditz offer to join the remaining Saiya-jin in planet piracy. Miffed, Radditz kidnaps Gohan and demands that Goku kill 100 earthlings to get his son back.
Radditz locks Gohan in his own space pod, then notices a tremendous power level on his scouter coming from the pod, but dismisses it as a malfunction. When Goku and Piccolo arrive to fight him, Radditz easily pounds them into the ground until Goku catches his tail. Before Piccolo can blast him, Radditz promises that he will leave and never return if Goku lets him go. Goku naively does, and Radditz immediately starts beating him. Hearing his father cry, Gohan flies out and smashes headfirst into Radditz's chest, injuring him. Before Radditz can recover and kill Gohan, Goku catches him in a bearhug. Radditz tries desperately to talk Goku into releasing him again, but Goku holds fast and Piccolo blasts right through them, killing them both. Radditz has the last laugh though, because when Piccolo tells him about the dragonballs that will restore Goku, Radditz passes the information on the Nappa and Vegeta, then tells Piccolo that to more Saiya-jins both stronger than he will arrive in one year, and then he dies.
