![]() Piccolo is the offspring of Piccolo-Daimao, the Demon Lord. When Goku kills Piccolo-Daimao, the evil Namek spits out an egg that contains all of his life essence, an egg that grows into Piccolo. Picollo shares quite a few common traits with his predecessor, including his natural evilness and his ties to Kami. Since Piccolo-Daimao was divided out of Kami, neither Kami nor Piccolo can exist without the other, and since they are opposite halves of the same being the incesently get on one anohter's nerves. Piccolo first non-egg appearance is in the end of Dragonball at the last Tenichi Budocki. He is fighting under the name Ma Junior and has lofty aspirations of ruling the world. However, a stronger force driving Piccolo is his desire for revenge on Goku, passed on from Piccolo-Daimao. Piccolo reaches the final round, defeating Kami himself to get there, and gets his chance to fight Goku. While the fight is extremely impresssive, Goku gets the best of Piccolo and wins fairly, hindering the Namek's world domination agenda.
Piccolo and Goku both fight their best, but Radditz proves to be much to powerful. Goku catches Radditz once, allowing Piccolo to power up to kill him, but Goku releases Radditz too soon. Then Gohan emerges and fells Radditz, giving Goku time to grab Radditz in a bear hug. At Goku's request, Piccolo blasts straight through them both, and kills them. Piccolo is impressed by Goku's courage and Gohan's strength, then Radditz informs him that two more powerful Saiya-jins are on their way to earth, and Piccolo realizes that will be trouble. He takes Gohan, only explaining to Goku stunned friends that he is going to train the boy. Piccolo then takes Gohan into the wilderness and seemingly abandons him, but he watches over the boy carefully to ensure his safety while working on his own training. During this time, Piccolo has to fight Oozaru Gohan and has to blow up the moon to solve that problem, then he removes Gohan's tail. After Gohan has survived long enough, Piccolo takes Gohan and begins to train him in martial arts, sparring endlessly with the boy and beating him savagely, knowing Gohan must learn many hard lessons of battle in a very short time. Once again Gohan turns into Oozaru mode, courtesy of a projection from Goku's ship and a regrown tail, but Piccolo manages to blow up the ship before Gohan kills him and removes Gohan's tail, again. During the entire ordeal, Piccolo becomes visibly softened by the innocent and friendly boy, who goes on to look up to Piccolo for the rest of his life. When the Saiya-jins arrive, Piccolo is leading the other Z fighters in the defense. When their numbers are whittled down to himself, Kuririn, and Gohan, Piccolo realizes they must take out Nappa or they will die before Goku gets back. He tries a few different plans, but Gohan is terrified and lets him down, failing to carry out his part. After Vegeta calls for a break, Piccolo reams out Gohan, trying to anger Gohan to the point where he will be able to fight. When the fighting resumes, before Goku's arrival, Nappa really turns it up and launches a fatal blast at Gohan, but Piccolo throws himself in front of it, dying to save his young friend. While everyone else goes to Namek, Piccolo goes to King Kaio's with Tienshin-han, Chaozu, and Yamcha. Still fairly arrogant, Piccolo refuses to participate in King Kaio's foolish games with Bubbles and Gregory, preferring to train by himself, but the heavy gravity does quickly further his training. As the warriors fight on Namek, King Kaio keeps them all updated of what is going on. When the dragonballs are gathered, Piccolo suggests that they wish him back to life, which everyone else is opposed to until he explains that once he is alive, Kami will come back to life again and the earth's dragonballs will be restored. Then Piccolo demands to be wished to Namek, even though King Kaio made him promise not to fight Freeza. On Namek, Piccolo finds that he is nowhere near the battle, since Gohan only wished him to Namek, not to their exact location, so he has to race off towards the large powers. On the way, Piccolo meets the dying Nail, who tells him what has happened and offers to fuse with him. Piccolo is hesitant, not really believing that this will be very helpful, but when after the fusion, Piccolo's power truly skyrockets, and he flies off towards Freeza again. When he arrives, no one is faring very well but he quickly changes that, whipping Freeza with his new power. He is strong enough to force Freeza to adopt his third form by making a second tranformation, but then Freeza lays in and nearly kills him. Dende revives Piccolo and he stands back while Freeza transforms once more into his final form, then watches while Vegeta gets destroyed by the ultra powerful Freeza. When Goku arrives, the fight changes to more of a one on one match and Piccolo, Kuririn, and Gohan are just observers. Piccolo reenters the fight once, distracting Freeza so that Goku has time to finish the Genki-dama he is preparing. When Freeza recovers from the blast, he shoots a tiny laser right through Piccolo's chest and Gohan, at his father's instruction, takes Piccolo to Goku's ship. Piccolo remains alive long enough that the earth's dragonballs can be used, and he is brought to earth with everyone else except Goku and Freeza and healed once again by Dende. He praises Goku's bravery. Next he appears at Kame House after most people have been possessed by the Black Water Mist and rescues Gohan and Kuririn, sending them to Kami's to get the Sacred Water. As they leave, Piccolo is brought down by the zombies and they bite into his neck. He pretends to be a zombie himself and goes to Kami's Lookout. Once there, he savagely attacks Gohan to convince everyone he is evil, then pretends to bite Kuririn while he explains just what he is planning. When he gets close enough, he grabs the bottles containing Kami and Mr. Popo and tosses them to Kuririn, who frees them. Then Piccolo begins to fight the powered up Garlic Jr. with Gohan and Kuririn. Together, they manage to beat Garlic Jr., forcing him to re open the dead zone, which begins to suck everything into it. Since Piccolo and Kuririn have become injured, Gohan has erected a shield to hold them in from the dead zone. Piccolo orders Gohan to lower the shield and blast Garlic Jr., but Gohan can't do it so Piccolo leaps from the shield and flies towards Garlic Jr. Kuririn does the same, and then Gohan is free to blast Garlic, who gets knocked into the dead zone, which seals behind him. Piccolo is also present when Trunks arrives to defeat Freeza, then warn Goku of the coming androids. Since Piccolo's ears are sharper than everyone else's, he is able to hear what Trunks is saying even though he and Goku are a long ways off for privacy. Afterwards, Piccolo reveals everything about the coming of the androids, despite Goku's request that it remain secret, but Piccolo has the sense not to mention anything about Trunks' parentage. At Goku's suggestion, Piccolo goes to train with he and Gohan for the next three years until the androids appear.
Piccolo fights Cell, and during the fight learns a lot about Cell's origins and purposes. The fight itself is fairly even and Piccolo may have even won but Cell ran away. Piccolo spends the next bit of the series chasing Cell, then decides that he must go to the androids, since that's where Cell will appear. He finds them at Kame House and proposes a one on one fight with Android #17. At first the fight is very even, but Piccolo gets the upper hand with a few tricks and some heavy blows, suprising Android #17. Then Cell approaches and Piccolo explains Cell's intentions to the androids, quickly changing from their aggressor to their defender. For his efforts, Piccolo is beaten and nearly killed. Cell succeeds in absorbing Android #17, and Piccolo only survives because Goku teleports in, grabs him, and teleports back to Kami's Lookout, where Piccolo can be healed. Piccolo doesn't do much in the Cell Game, and after Cell is defeated he turns over the guardianship of the earth to Dende. During the Buu saga, Piccolo's role becomes less and less important as the fights turn to Saiya-jin fests. He is present at the Tenichi Budocki and he is turned to stone during the fight with Dabura, then restored when Dabura is killed. His most important action is blasting the door of the Room Of Spirit And Time, sealing Gotenks and Buu inside for the good of the earth. However, both warriors escape and Piccolo ends up getting absorbed for his efforts. He is rescued later when Vegetto enters Buu.
Piccolo's role is even more diminished in Dragonball GT. After the fight with Bebi, everyone is brought to Kaio-shin's planet since earth is about to explode, but Piccolo remains behind. When the Namekian dragonballs are used to restore the earth, Piccolo remains dead. He reappears once more, in the afterlife, helping Goku to return to earth after Goku came to help defeat Cell and Freeza in the afterlife during the Super 17 saga.
