Kuririn

Kuririn is Goku's best friend. He is a monk of some sort with a shaven head (no, he's not bald). They meet when Kuririn washes up on the shores of Kame House, seeking the training of Kamesennin. The two boys start as enemies, vying for superiority, but Kuririn is never really as strong as Goku and they quickly become good friends. During Dragonball, Kuririn and Goku enter the Tenichi Budockis together, but Kuririn never makes it as far as Goku, reaching the final eight but never the final match.

During the Piccolo-Daimao incident, Kuririn is killed by the evil demon lord, which drives Goku's rage that allows him to defeat Piccolo-Daimao. The dragonballs are gathered shortly thereafter and Kuririn's life is restored. He appears once more at the final Tenichi Budocki of the series.

During Dragonball Z, Goku really pulls away from Kuririn. Kuririn is still the strongest human on earth, and when the Saiya-jins come he has trained with Kami and become fairly strong, but he is light years behind Goku. During the fight with Vegeta, Kuririn takes the energy Goku has gathered to make a Genki-dama and with Goku's instruction, he forms the Genki-dama and hits Vegeta with it. After Vegeta is crushed further by Gohan, Kuririn tries to kill Vegeta with Yajirobei's sword but Goku asks him to stop, and he does.

After he recovers from his injuries, Kuririn goes with Gohan and Bulma to Namek, so that they can find the Namekian dragonballs and wish back those killed by Vegeta. When they get to Namek, Gohan and Kuririn spend a lot of time flying around and masking their power levels from Vegeta and Freeza. When Gohan sees Freeza about to kill a young Namek however, Gohan leaps into the fray, dragging a reluctant Kuririn with him and saves the Namek's life. Kuririn takes the Namek to Guru's while Gohan goes back to Bulma. At Guru's, Kuririn has his hidden powers awakened. Much stronger, he leaves with Guru's dragonball intent on bringing Gohan back to Guru's as well. When Gohan reaches Bulma again, he finds Kuririn has also arrived and Kuririn rushes Gohan to Guru's to awaken Gohan's hidden power. With that done, they start to leave but are stopped by Vegeta. Vegeta insists they must team up to stop the oncoming Ginyu Force, Freeza's elite warriors, and Gohan reluctantly agrees, as does Kuririn. While they are off the retrieve the dragonballs that will grant Vegeta immortality, they meet the Ginyu Force.

Gohan and Kuririn begin by fighting Guldo, who freezes time and moves objects with his mind. When Guldo appears to have won, pinning Kuririn and Gohan in place with his mind and hurling an uprooted tree at them, Vegeta blasts Guldo and saves their lives. Then Recoom defeats all three warriors before Goku arrives, hands out senzu beans, and beats Recoom soundly. Then Kuririn and Gohan head for Freeza's ship to get the dragonballs while Goku takes on the Ginyus. At Freeza's ship, the Gohan and Kuririn find the dragonballs but can't activate them. Then Goku arrives, except that it is really Captain Ginyu in Goku's body, and begins fighting them. They are being beaten at first, until the real Goku shows up and tells them they can win. They discover that Captain Ginyu isn't so tough anymore, and beat him to a pulp before Captain Ginyu tries his body snatching tricks again, which ends up restoring Goku to his now injured body and transfering Captain Ginyu into a frog.

With Vegeta's help, Gohan is able to get Goku into a healing pod. After collecting some Saiya-jin armor from Vegeta, Gohan goes out to guard the dragonballs while Vegeta rests and Kuririn goes to Guru's to find out how to work the dragonballs. Dende is on the way to tell them how to use the dragonballs, and they meet halfway. When Kuririn returns, Dende is with him and they activate the dragonballs. Kuririn is in the background while Gohan makes the first two wishes, then he calms Vegeta, who was angry at being left out of the wishing, reminding him of the third wish, and convinces Dende to say it. Before the wish is granted, Guru dies and so does the dragon, just as Freeza arrives.

Kuririn stands back in the fight with Freeza, since he is powerless against the tyrant. Freeza nearly kills him once, but Dende heals him very effectively. While he watches, Vegeta asks Kuririn to beat him up. Kuririn is hesitant, but finally agrees and blasts Vegeta fatally so that Dende can heal him and he will be stronger than ever. When Goku arrives, Kuririn and the others back off even farther, and everyone rejoices when Goku lands his Genki-dama on Freeza. Then it is Kuririn who sees Freeza coming back, and shortly after Freeza kills him, propelling Goku into Super Saiya-jin mode for the first time.

Since he can't be revived with the earth's dragonballs and he died on Namek, Kurirn gets wished to earth's check in station and then wished to life using the Namekian dragonballs. Back alive, Kuririn begins to date the airheaded Maron and they go to a reunion at Kame House when Garlic Jr. is releasing the Black Water Mist. Kuririn and Maron are underwater at the time, and they escape with Gohan from their zombie friends and go to Kami's Lookout. Kuririn is beaten by Garlic's henchmen, then Piccolo picks him up and pretends to bite him, telling him to attack Gohan and try and get near Garlic Jr. They both pretend to be infected with the Black Water Mist until Piccolo is close and he steals the bottles holding Kami and Mr. Popo from Garlic then tosses them to Kuririn, who releases them. The fight against Garlic Jr. begins, and Kuririn is outmatched again. After Garlic is beaten by Gohan, he opens the dead zone and Gohan erects a shield with his energy to hold his two injured friends, Piccolo and Kuririn, from being pulled into the dead zone and refuses to lower it and blast Garlic despite Piccolo's insistance. To force Gohan's hand, Piccolo and Kuririn leap from the shield and Gohan then blasts Garlic with all his might, knocking the demon into the dead zone and sealing it shut behind him.

In the final bit of this story, Kuririn is shopping with Maron when she points out a wedding dress that she likes. He is scared, puzzled, and scared some more, thinking that she wants to get married. He ponders it for a long time, and at Kamesennin's turtle's suggestion, tries to get a beautiful pearl for Maron. The fish guard the pearl with their lives and Kuririn sees it is very important that he let them keep it. As he walks along the beach with Maron, he tells her that they have to break up because she is too good for him, and that he's setting her free. Maron makes a comment that she would have said yes, and by the time Kuririn figures out what she meant and turned back, she was gone, traipsing off with a guy in a cool car.

Kuririn is present again for Trunks' arrival and when he learns about the androids, he goes to Kame House to train for their coming under Kamesennin. When the fight begins with the androids, Kuririn takes a very cowardly approach, never entering the fight between Goku and Android #19. As they split up to chase Dr. Gero back to his lab, Kuririn is the one who meets up with Dr. Gero near the lab. The doctor doesn't kill him, and Kuririn summons the others but has to tell them that Dr. Gero beat him there. At the next fight, between Android #18 and Vegeta, Kuririn is the only Z fighter that doesn't enter the battle. Afterwards, the androids explain that it's just a game to them and Android #18 kisses Kuririn.

After this, Kuririn develops feelings for Android #18. When Bulma gives him a device to deactivate her, he is too hesitant to use it and Cell absorbs her. After the battle with Cell, Kuririn convinces the others to let Android #18, who was knocked out of Cell by Gohan, remain alive and they use the dragonballs to wish that the her self destruct bomb be removed. They get married shortly thereafter and have a daughter named Maron. Android #18 convinces Kuririn to grow hair for the first time ever, and they more or less bow out of the series as the fights in the Buu saga are more Saiya-jin oriented.

Kuririn reappears once in Dragonball GT during the Super 17 saga. He and Android #18 are killed by Super 17 and it is when the Z fighters try to wish them back that the Evil Shenlons appear. After the Shenlons are all defeated, Goku convinces the real Shenlon to restore Kuririn and the others killed recently, which is the last wish ever granted in the series.
