King Kaio

King Kaio is the god of the northern galaxy and he lives on a tiny planet at the end of Snake Way with tremendous gravity. He is the finest martial arts teacher in the galaxy and the worst teller of puns. He first enters when Goku comes to his planet to receive training. His methods of training are unorthodox, but effective.

His first task for pupils is to catch Bubbles, his monkey, which forces them to adjust to the gravity, then he makes them hit Gregory the fly with an extremely heavy hammer which makes them fine tune their strength and control in the gravity, then students get his personal training. He taught Goku the Kaio-ken technique that he himself couldn't master and the powerful Genki-dama.

King Kaio reappears during the Freeza saga when he is training Piccolo, Yamcha, Tienshin-han, and Chaozu, and continues to appear throughout the series giving telepathic messages to Goku and serving as an informant for the Z fighters. He is killed when Goku teleports Cell to King Kaio's planet where Cell self destructs, destroying the entire planet. He continues on in the afterlife, still supervising fighters from the northern galaxy and entering his warriors in Dai Kaio's tournaments.
