Garlic Jr. makes his first Dragonball appearance in the very first Dragonball Z Movie. He is gathering the dragonballs to wish for immortality, then he plans to take over Kami's throne as revenge for his father Garlic, who was sealed in the dead zone by Kami. In getting all 7 dragonballs, he kidnaps Gohan, who has the 4 star dragonball on his hat. Goku and Piccolo team up to rescue Gohan, but Garlic transforms a larger demon and beats them. Then Gohan gets angry and attacks Garlic Jr. Gohan is winning, and as a last ditch effort Garlic Jr. opens up the dead zone, but Gohan isn't being pulled in himself and blasts Garlic Jr. into the portal, after which it closes.
Garlic Jr. appears again in the series after the Freeza saga. Using the power of the Makeo star, which has moved close to earth, Garlic Jr. escapes the dead zone and takes over Kami's Lookout, trapping Kami and Mr. Popo each in a small bottle. Then he releases the Black Water Mist on the world, turning almost everyone into his mindless zombie slave killers. Gohan and Kuririn arrive on at Kami's and aren't infected yet though, and Piccolo only pretends to be infected, tricking Garlic Jr. and managing to free Kami and Mr. Popo. Then while Kami and Mr. Popo free the earth with the Sacred Water, Gohan, Piccolo and Kuririn fight against Garlic Jr., who has transformed into a giant beast monster again. Once again, he defeats everyone before Gohan gets angry and beats him. Then Garlic Jr. reopens the dead zone and Gohan blasts him back into it, ending his brief reign of terror.
