Dr. Gero

Dr. Gero is a maniacal genius bent on taking over the world. He is first introduced in Dragonball as the creator of the entire Red Ribbon army. Even his entire mechanical army, however, cannot stand up to Goku, a single little boy, and as Dr. Gero watches Goku destroy his army he realizes that to rule the world he must create a being that is stronger than Goku. He then runs away to his hidden labratory and begins to work on creating a singel superior fighter.

Since he is afraid that Goku will be stronger than his creation, Dr. Gero uses a small bug to spy on Goku constantly from Dragonball all the way up until Goku leaves for planet Namek. Extrapolating on collected data, Dr. Gero plans for where Goku's training will increase his strength and begins to design androids that will be even stronger. His first creation, Android #16 is never finished, although he did intend to complete that creation one day. His next two androids, #17 and #18, were very strong but also dangerously disobedient. Dr. Gero put them back into storage and began work on one final android, Android #19. Android #19 was of a different design, one that could absorb energy through its hands. Dr. Gero was very satisfied with this design, so much so that he turned himself into a similar, energy absorbing android, Android #20.

Three years after Trunks' visit, Android #19 and Dr. Gero show up in a city and are suprised to see the Z fighters all waiting there for them. They encounter Yamcha first and Dr. Gero drains him of his energy, but then the other Z fighters arrive. When Goku demands that they fight in an area free of innocent people, Dr. Gero blasts lasers from his eyes and kills everyone in the city. Goku is outraged, but they leave to fight at a nearby island. Dr. Gero tells Android #19 to dispose of the rabble, but is amazed when Goku turns into a Super Saiya-jin, much more powerful then he planned on. His relief when Android #19 picks up the fluke win is short lived when Vegeta arrives and demonstrates that he is also a Super Saiya-jin. After Android #19 is destroyed, Vegeta bluffs a desire to fight and Dr. Gero flees, planning to reactivate Android #17 and Android #18.

Since he would be caught flying, Dr. Gero runs the entire way. Sensing that he is low on energy, he tries to steal energy from Piccolo but Gohan arrives in time to save Piccolo. Then Piccolo, restored with a senzu bean, lays into Dr. Gero, and Dr. Gero is amazed that he is losing. All of his data for the abilities of the warriors is magnificently inaccurate and he runs again, knowing he must reach his lab before the Z fighters. He manages to arrive first, just barely, and activates Android #17 and Android #18. After giving them a short speech about behaving themselves, he tells them to kill the Z fighters. Android #17 has other plans, however, and steals Dr. Gero's controller that can deactivate the androids, then crushes it. Dr. Gero is absolutely outraged, lecturing Android #17 then yelling at Android #18 not to release Android #16. Sick of the mad doctor, Android #17 knocks his head off in a single blow then leaps and crushes it, killing Dr. Gero.

Dr. Gero reappears briefly in Dragonball GT during the Super 17 saga. While in Hell, he joins up with Dr. Myuu, the creator of Bebi, and they build an android called Artifical Android #17. This android is merged with Andriod #17 to form Super 17, then the mad scientists let their creation loose on earth. As always, Goku destroys it without much trouble.
