Bulma

Bulma is one of the first characters introduced in Dragonball. She is an arrogant teenage girl obsessed with her own supposed genius and beauty. Her parents are Dr. and Mrs. Briefs, owners of the famous Capsule Corporation. She is collecting the dragonballs to wish for the perfect boyfriend when her dragon radar leads her to Goku, who has a dragonball that his grandfather left him. After a brief skirmish, Bulma tells Goku about the dragonballs and convinces him to come with her so she can use his dragonball at the end. They then leave on Bulma's motorcylce.

Bulma quickly finds that Goku isn't very wise to the world and is frequently exasperated by his lack of understanding in many matters, especially gender. Bulma is really extremely useless during the journey, constantly thrusting the majority of the work onto Goku. She does manage to get Kamesennin's dragonball by flashing him her panties, but most of the rest of the time she is a hinderance. She falls in love with Yamcha, even though he is trying to steal their dragonballs, and it is a wonder that they manage to gather 6 of the dragonballs.

When they are captured by Pilaf, the dragonballs are all used up when Pilaf summons the dragon and Oolong wishes for panties. As the group goes their seperate ways, Bulma and Yamcha finally notice each other and they decide to go date. Bulma doens't show up a whole lot more during Dragonball, appearing here and there with Yamcha at Tenichi Budockis.

When Dragonball Z begins with the reunion at Kame House, Bulma is there with everyone else. She has broken up with Yamcha, but again really doesn't do a lot. After Goku dies, she helps collect the dragonballs that will be used to bring him back. It is after the fight with Vegeta that Bulma comes into her own. With the help of Mr. Popo, she masters the use of Kami's spaceship and leads the expedition to find the Namekian dragonballs with Kuririn and Gohan. They have a few very minor stops on the way to Namek, but no real trouble.

On Namek, Bumla plays a comic relief kind of role. She is almost immediatlely abandoned by Gohan and Kuririn and has to go stay in a cave after Freeza's men destroy their ship. The boys meet up with Bulma again much later, each bringing Bulma a dragonball, and she ends up keeping one of the two. That dragonball ends up rolling into a lake, and Bulma is forced to retreive it in a capsulized diving suit. When she comes back up, she encounters two of Freeza's goons but tricks them into going down into the lake with her where they are killed by a giant crab.

Bulma's next ordeal on Namek comes later, after Captain Ginyu has been turned into a frog. She is on her motorbike, racing to find a ship and leave, when she finds Captain Ginyu. She is amazed at how intelligent the frog seems, and builds a machine to allow it to speak. Captain Ginyu's first words are "Change Now" and he switches bodies with Bulma. They both go to meet Gohan, Kuririn, and Piccolo, who are watching Goku fight Freeza, and with a little gesturing Bulma gets Gohan to figure out just what happened, and they manage to switch bodies again when Bulma is thrown between Captain Ginyu and Piccolo, whose body Ginyu is trying to steal.

Bulma next appears about to die as Namek's surface crumbles, but Gohan saves her in the nick of time and brings her to Goku's ship. She and Gohan argue abot whether or not to wait for Goku until they all get wished to earth. Everyone is sad that Goku will die, but Bulma points out that the Namek dragonballs can bring him back and a plan is formed to revive Goku based on that.

During the time between Trunks' arrival and the androids arrival, Bulma has a very brief fling with Vegeta, who she develops feelings for while she watches him train at the Capsule Corporation compound. This is never actually shown, only spoke of, and the result of their time together is Trunks, who is born just before the androids arrive. Bulma brings him to the battle (she is so stupid sometimes its amazing) but they don't really do anything. She is present at the discovery of Cell, and later when Mirai Trunks brings her the plans for Android #17 she creates a device to deactivate the androids and gives it to Kuririn. She helps out a few more times in the Cell Saga, delivering Saiya-jin armor to all of the warriors and rebuilding Android #16 after Cell destroys him.

During the next segment of dragonball, the Buu saga, Bulma really steps into the background. After helping Gohan to create the Great Saiyaman disguise in the very beginning of the series, the fighting begins and basically doesn't let up until the end of the series. This time, Bulma realizes the astounding forces involves and stays out of the battles.

During Dragonball GT, Bulma's role is also minor but she does seem much closer to Vegeta. When she is possessed by Bebi, she builds the device that magnifies the earth's light and allows Bebi-Vegeta to enter Oozaru mode. She also helps Vegeta to reach Super Saiya-jin Level 4 in the Evil Shenlon saga, building a devices that forces his body to enter into the gold furred Oozaru mode.
